The Nords believe the key to prosperity as a grape grower is dependent on the health of the vineyard which is in turn influenced by how cultural practices can positively affect abiotic conditions and pest presence in the most favorable way possible.
We strive to keep our vineyards in balance, through limiting crop load and replenishing what we take via nutrient inputs such as compost spreading, fertilizer injection, and foliar nutrients.
A vineyard exhibits its needs through the symptoms is presents, it is our job to identify them and tie them into a broader strategy while protecting the environment and ecosystem.
Routine testing of the soil and vine tissue analysis is key to knowing if what we take from the vine is balanced with what we give back.
The vineyards we manage exist as part of a larger environment and ecosystem; it is for this reason we recognize our duty as stewards of the land.
We proudly obey the principles established by Fish Friendly Farming, thereby reducing chemical inputs, ensuring the waterways of our properties are cleaner and less polluted, and encouraging natural wildlife to thrive.
We encourage diversity in the environment and support it by planting a variety of cover crops, allowing headlands to seed naturally, and reducing vineyard acres tilled.
A vineyard exists to produce grapes, but it is far more than just a means, it has sustained natural flora and fauna long before we cultivated it.
Beyond contracting with a safety coordinator to provide seasonal training, we provide health care and retirement plans for qualifying employees. In addition, we have offered various educational opportunities for our employees’ and their families through in-house English tutoring classes and financial incentive for academic achievement by our employees’ children.
The average length of tenure of our core group of managers spans several decades here at Nord Vineyard Services. This is a testament to our dedication to employee safety and development.
